Oneder: A Digital Platform for Special Education

Creating an Inclusive and Efficient Learning Experience

Oneder is a cross-platform digital product designed by Dana Freud, aimed at revolutionizing special education by providing teachers and students with an intuitive and accessible curriculum-building and learning platform.

The inspiration for Oneder came from extensive interviews and observations of special needs students and their teachers. Recognizing the time constraints faced by special education teachers, Dana Freud set out to design a product that would offer a clear, intuitive, and efficient interface for creating lesson assignments. Moreover, considering the wide spectrum of disabilities among students, the product needed to be accessible, functional, and minimalistic, while still aesthetically appealing.

What sets Oneder apart is its ability to empower teachers to build and share their own curriculum, tailored to their students' unique learning skills and aligned with academic standards. The platform's academic app enables students to engage in educational and enjoyable tasks that are relevant to their day-to-day situations. Additionally, Oneder presents analyzed and quantitative data in an intuitive and efficient display for school administrators, providing valuable insights into student progress.

Oneder's realization technology is rooted in the principles of design thinking. Through collaborative brainstorming sessions with educators, a range of concepts were developed to ensure the most efficient and intuitive communication between teachers and students. The result is a dynamic and responsive product that automatically adjusts to different screen sizes and device types.

The challenges faced during the development of Oneder were significant. The product had to comply with stringent accessibility regulations to cater to students with a wide range of disabilities, including vision or hearing impairment and autism. Careful consideration was given to typography sizes, contrast, and color choices, all of which underwent rigorous user testing.

The design of Oneder is centered around creating a desirable experience for educators and students with special needs. The inviting and aesthetic cross-platform system incorporates illustrations and a warm color palette to evoke a sense of appeal. The tablet app offers students a wide variety of colorful and enjoyable assignments, allowing them to upload content from their native environment. The data collected is then presented in a clear and elegant dashboard, influenced by material design principles.

Recognizing its excellence and innovation, Oneder was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Education, Teaching Aid, and Training Content Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the product's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
